Neuroticism and satisfaction with relationships and with life in old age

Abstract Objectives To investigate the association between neuroticism and life satisfaction social support in married older people; addition to verifying whether with marriage family friendship relationships are mediators of these associations. Method A cross-sectional was study carried out data from Fragility Older Adult Brazilians (FIBRA) study. total 194 people recruited residential households participated survey. Instruments used included a sociodemographic questionnaire; NEO-PI-R-Neuroticism scale Big Five Personality Inventory; five items semantically adapted ISEL (Interpersonal Support Evaluation List) single rated on scales (five points each) for variables marital, family, life. Structural equation modelling via path analysis performed. Results The sample comprised individuals who were predominantly men (54.6%), that reported being satisfied or highly life, marriage, friendships, relationships. Participants lower scores had higher Greater friendships directly associated better support. Satisfaction members friends mediating satisfaction.
